Hell Dave my question is i have a 72 challenger rebuilding a 440 30 over 906 heads i am thinking about using a mopar hydraulic purple shaft cam 280/280 lift 474/474 centerline 110 basic rpm 2000-5900 if i use a torque converter 2200-2800 will this be a good combination if not what would be good for good power in take off i am using a sure grip 391. Randy that combo will work fine. Just slightly more power than stock. Probably not enough more to really notice though.

My only problem with it is the use of a MP cam. They are 40 year old, pre-computer designs that are very poor compared to modern designs. There are much better designs out there that give more power over a wider rpm range without increasing duration.

But then again. With modern cams you really need head work (bigger valves and pocket porting), machined valve guides (due to the high lifts) and headers etc.

So for a budget build the MP cam and combo you have there might be just the ticket.
