Block Re-stamping

How can you tell if block been restamp to be numbers matching. I am in the market for a 6 pack car but the one i looked at the stamping on the block (vin)looked strange. Also are any of the mopar restoration place or people known to restamp block. I don't want to spend top dollar on a numbers matching car to find out the block been restamp. I am new in the mopar world and don't want to get taking. I need to find out who's who.
thanks

The police have a chemical revealer that can spot these things but that will upset the owner a bit won't it!

If you feel worried just walk away from it. Sometimes you have to trust your gut feelings.

On the other hand it may not matter too much as long as the block is dated right. But if that has been altered you have to ask what else has been done to the car as well.

Do the casting dates on the block check out OK?

THE CASTING DATE ARE ok.The car is worth less without the vin stamped on the block right.I have a friend who is into mopars he said there is alot of restamping going on to make the car concourse.what dose the chemical revealer show if you mill the stamp boss down and restamp.

The impression from the original stamps shows up. Hang on. I have some photos I just found that show what the VIN stamping should look like. I will scan them.

As you can see they are often not stamped very straight and sometimes there are even numbers missing. So the numbers you are looking at could be ok.
