Guys how can you determine what size air filter you need when ordering a new one, is it part number or measurement...if it is measurement then how do you measure, is it the diameter of the element ,the height, internal measure or what, I have a standard snorkel for my 383 and need to order a new filter.

Thanks

For stock applications like your's Wayne it's a part number that usually "gets the job done". There are "hi-flow' applications that some modern filter companies might make like the Fram "Air Hog" or K&N makes an air filter that will drop in the housing and maybe someone knows the part number you need or contact them directly. The air filter should be clean for max airflow. Take out your old one and measure the diameter and height. Across the top end to end and how tall it is. This will be your measurement.

On the K&N website you can find what part number you need by entering the dimensions you need.

I remember 'flipping' the air cleaner lid on my Dads old Dodge Polara with 383 Powered 'hi-flo' 2 barrel Tuna Boat SE, it helped make Mondo H.P.! :s024: Seriously, the K&N is a great idea and comes pre-oiled and ready to install. Dont hesitate Wayne. my dad kicked my butt, I forgot to place the lid back and it sounded to him like I destroyed something.
