Here is a pic of the 'new' Amsoil Muscle Car engine oil formulated for FLAT TAPPET CAMS with STRONG/RACE Valvesprings. It's very rich in ZDDP. It's S.A.E.(Society Automotive Engineers) approved. I am not a dealer or rep. I use this stuff in my Challenger and my Dodge Truck along with their filters.

I wonder if anyone can supply it over here.

What prevents using this on rollers?
Is your crate egine a flat tappet? Don't recall but are the new Magnum engines rollers?

This is for flat tappet cams because there are now wear problems due to a lack of aditives in modern oils. There is no reason not to use it in a roller cam engine. It would just be a little wasted.

Barc you can use this on all camshaft designs. It's especially formulated for flat tappets but it's ZDDP additive will also help with hyd. roller's or solid rollers as well. My truck Magnum 360 is hyd. roller. Dave I will check on it for you at once!

True, but it's also rated for 25,000 miles, and that can save a little money in the long run.

For anyone overseas thats interested. http://www.performanceoilsltd.co.uk/ my dealer informed me they are the only importer of Amsoil products to the UK. Looks like 11.99 a Qt. for you guys. Just for comparison's sake I pay 8.36 wholesale.

I use Valvoline Full Synthetic, 20-50, on my 340 roller. How do you think they compare? I've heard of Amsoil for a while, now. I've also seen a dealer in Vancouver, Wa. It's probably only a couple of $ more but, is it really that much better?

You need zinc and phosphorus anti-wear additives in the oil to protect your cam and lifters. Most oils have now had this removed for emmissions purposes so you need an oil like this.

So does your oil have it Pat?

The price of that oil over here works out as $100 for 5 litres.

I pay $40 for Castrol Magnatec 15-40w which has some sort of moly additive which does the same thing.

Yikes! I dont blame you Dave! Castrol is very good stuff! You guys have enough expense with trying to fill your fuel tanks let alone the oil sump,, eh?

It doe's have lower Zinc level's but, claim's that it has advanced, more durable, anti-wear additive's that stay in the oil longer to protect against, friction and wear. I'm pretty new to this whole synthetic Era. It used to be, change the oil, every 3 month's or every 3000 mile's, religously. I use it on the Challenger because, it doesn't get driven more than 3,500, a year. So, I just change it at the start of every new driving season. Do you think that's not enough? Just thought I had my bases covered. Open to sudjestion's though. Check out valvoline.com.

The valvoline you are talking about unfortunatly doesnt contain the levels of ZDDP that the older oils had. The RACE valvoline does. 30 Wt. Valvoline Racing oil is very rich in ZDDP.
