HELP............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OKAY dave r....u were right....i should of never torn it apart.....BUT why wont it run now?????.........ive tried everything.....tdc. compression stroke........retraced my wires and firing order. twice....even switched to a new distributor.....not i cant get it to fire.....even if i had the dizzzy in 180...shouldnt it try to fire or cough or spit and sputter?????????????

Check for spark. Are you getting any? Pull the number#1 cylinder plug wire,(it has the head sticking out further then the other head and is located on the Passenger side as you are seated in the car).

All i can say is get #1 back to TDC firing and make sure the rotor is directlty in line with the #1 spark lead on the dizzy tower.

Also check that the wires are in order 18436572 anti-clockwise from your #I cap position.

Then check you have a spark at the plug leads as eddie says.

i have spark thats what so confusing.......the dodge manual says the rotor should be pointing at 5 oclock when sitting in the block....
so i tried that but then my timimg marks are off 11 degrees and my intermediate gear isnt in line with my cam perfectly.....isnt that all important.....that the marks are at 0....and the interm. shaft gear be inline with cam???????
should u be able to set the dizzy in anywere then???? if none of that matters?

guys could it be my plugs are saturated with fule since ive been cranking the crap out of it...could that cause it not to fire at all.....?

If it is flooded jam the throttle wide open to let it dry out. That would stop it starting.

Yes you can have #1 anywhere on the dizzy. It depends how the drive gear is inserted. But as long as you turn the dizzy so that the rotor is pointing at your #1 plug wire then it will start once dried out a little.

Does he have roller cam? Arent those ground on the highest lobe peak, meaning wouldnt that place his timing marks off Dave? But none of this should matter, as long as he follows your advice on finding TDC and placing the dizzy back to fire at #1.

may be you are getting spark , but how much spark i had a car with a questionable system and it had a spark but not enough, however not to confuse you but it was on a 6 volt system , on a 41 ford,but just the same it should lite, if you have spark,this kinda stuff can be mind bending,it may need to go back to the begining carefully looking over everything you have touched, and double check them again,good luck!

Sounds like it maybe 180 off . On the distributor, the flat blade insert to the cam/oil pump shaft gear. This connection must be timed correctly to the cam or you are wasting time.

Don't crank too much and pump fuel into the motor or it will wash all the lubricant down the cylinder walls. Into the pan. :s001:

well i put champion plugs in it and a squirt of startin fluid and walla.....it runs....set the timing at 34 degrees and wow does it run now....whole new car....thanks guys.......

hey i got a noise when i get on it hard.....like a chatter....???? any clues..........could the engine be starveing for fuel.....or octane

The timing figures I gave assumed you would use the best fuel available for your car. If the octane rating is not very high you might need to back off on the timing a couple of degrees.

If that does not get rid of the noise then it could be something else like a small exhaust header leak.
