Sure sounds like a ruptured power valve.

Good call Eddie, I will add it maybe debris in the fuel system. Sounds like something has clogged a passage or the floats are stuck.

Sometimes the brass floats can spring a leak and sink.

Yeah could be a stuck float, try tapping the top of the bowl with a rubber mallett and set the floats too. I had this problem(flooding) a long time ago, the floats where the culprit had to footbrake while holding the gas down to keep from stalling.

Good Job Guys ... thats just what it was.. the new (but expensive!!) fuel has good cleaners it... a peice of dirt held the floats up, and just a tap got it back to normal.. another option would be to disconnect the fuel and let it run out of gas... or just take apart and clean the carb...these carbs are so touchy!

I bet your anchor is tuned better than your car now!

Seriously, I think Holleys are great if you can ever get the damn things tuned right.

I am on my 2nd Holley 650 DP in 32 years and the only noticable probem (besides blowing power valves) is the eye burning fumes at idle. Could be the cam though.

Increase the initial timing. You will probably have to decrease the amount of timing in the distributor so that you do not go beyond 34 degrees total.

Something between 14-18 degrees inital should do it.

Also check you have no ported vacuum at idle. This is a sign that you are running on the main jets instead of the idle circuits.

Is it the fumes or the no ported vacuum at idle that means I am running on the mains? She does seems to run crisper when cold. Possibly it is running a bit rich.

Initial is at 10 for pinging reasons with direct manifold vacuum so it is way more then that once the canister is hooked up. I upping the secondaries from 76 to 80 as Jimiboy suggested and got rid of the WOT pinging. (thanks Jimi) Maybe a few more degrees can be added now. Will check it out.

Remember this ignition setup is as recommended with the FBO setup Dave. Be Nice. :)

And now Holley's are designed with power valve protection.

I've had a few Edelbrock's in the past. Seriously, Holley's are just as easy to tune, as the Edelbrock's. Now Edelbrock is really,"Carter,Edelbrock and Weber", all slammed together. I still think Edelbrock has a great carburater, I've just had really great luck with Holley. My old Edelbrock is free to a good home. Very little water damage.

You can have it if you want Moparman. I took it out last summer when I was doing a whole bunch of fine tuning. I just wanted some more cfm's. It's been sitting high and dry for that long though. Probably needs a new kit. P.M. me if you want it. I'd give it to you for the cost of shipping. :wink2: Pat
