440SixPack Engine

What are the differences between a regular 440-4 engine and the 440-6?

1). Three Bolt cam drive instead of one bolt.
2).Valve stems were flash chromed
3). Premium crankshaft forging
4). Connecting rod forgings were heavier and wider beamed than 'LY" 440 rods were
5). Hi rise dual plane intake with three Holleys instead of standard dual plane with Carter AVS
6).Camshaft was increased in duration and lift with high rate valve springs with damper.
7).Recessed faced Crankshaft Damper was used that compensated for the increase in connecting rod weight

Can anyone else add anything?? or can someone re-print this in a neater more orderly way, I'm a horrible secretary, I enjoy watching them though :wink2:

Hey Eddie. What do you think the "return" key is for?

Done it for you.

Well Eddie. Most of the 4bbl HP 440s got the same crank and rods with external ballance. So you can't really count those as differences.

Plus the cam spec/timing was the same as the R/T 383 and 440 according to the manual. But some say it was ground with a faster rate of lift. I don't know if that is true or not.

Thanks Dave! I appreciate that. my keyboard is starting to fail.

I remembered this in the bathroom today! The 440 Sixpack had the 6 Qt. Hemi oil pan. It has a front baffle, and 3/8 I.D. pickup. So the engine would hold a total of 7 Qts. of oil with filter,(Long style). The 440 Magnum I think had the "standard" 5 Qt. oil pan. Please correct if wrong.

Most 1970-71 HP 440-4bbls got the big baffled (front and back?) oil pan and windage tray as stock. As did mine.

My 440 (and most other 70-71 HP 440 engines) has the same block, heads, crank, rods, damper, windage tray and pan as a six pack 440.

The pistons were a higher compression though. 9.7:1 in the 4bbl and 10.5:1 in the six pack.

Oh. And I am pretty sure the valve springs were the same too. Certainly you had an outer with inner damper.

Please don't confuse the HP 440 used in R/T models with other 1970-71 440 engines though. There were many mass produced 440 cars that did indeed come with all the low performance gear that were used by Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth.
These lesser 440-4bbls did have smaller oil pans, single valve springs, weaker rods, etc.

So as I understand it. 1970 440 4v R/T built engines had 6 qt. pans same as 1970 440 6v? Thanks for the piston differences I forgot about that.

As Dave correctly stated above: The 440 SixPack had two valve relief style 'flat top pistons, with a compression spec of 10.5 to 1 while 440 Magnum 4 V had 9.7 to 1 compression with no valve reliefs just a plain flat top.

I looked through their website..... saw photos of a 73 340 Cuda in progress and it looks like they didn't remove the front suspension when they restored that car. How could they get the paint right?

I've never heard of them until now. They sure have a lot of 'clone' cars for sale. Some of their prices seem OK. Jack's point is well taken.(if anyone can tell it's Jack!)

Don't know anything about them but I do know they've been around at least a couple of years. I first ran across them on the net a couple of years ago. They started out selling rich boy toys IIRC (muscle, exotic etc) and basically have followed the money trail since (good business policy  ).
