X pipes, 5 years on...

Postby Goldenblack440 » 06 Nov 2007 11:08

OK, i know i'm only 5 and a half years too late on this as its been discussed before but i'm thinking in that time, maybe a lot more people have had experience fitting X pipes to BB with big exhaust systems. I'm getting a twin 3" system fitted soon (318 for the pits inspection, but big valve 440 intended) and have read a bit of good stuff about the X pipes. However i have been told they really quieten the exhaust- almost to the sound of a single system. Dave, or amyone, in these years have you heard a warm 440 with a twin 3" and X pipe? You said the frequency of the sound goes up, but surely it doesn't sound as bad as a single? I suppose if i want the meaty grumble, i should run separate pipes.

Use the X-pipe and also DynoMax Ultr-Flo's. That will give you the throaty sound you desire with the performance increase. I used Dyno-Max regular mufflers that came with the TTI kit and they are pretty 'quiet' compared to the Ultra-Flo's! The X-pipe sounds totally different than seperate duals. My opinion only.

Thanks Eddie, although will have to see if they have Dyna-Max in Australia, as it would not be cost effective to airmail two mufflers in. I have also been thinking of using the small cylindrical types as well- we call them 'hotdogs'. There are many different types and lengths- some as long as 24" and 32". But people over here say they will be too loud. I might have to make several trips to the exhaust place to get the sound i want.

Sounds like you're referring to what we generically call glasspacks. Nice and loud :s004:
Gotta love Cherry Bombs new ad campaign "Disturbing the peace since 1968" As I recall, the only muffler louder than the Cherry Bomb is/was the Purple Hornie :s003: Now that would wake the folks up across town :lol2:

yeah, i was looking in the JEGS catalog- glass packs is what i was talking about- i'm sure there are some of these that are not that loud- the spiral designs for exampe. I have seen some chevs come in straight from the States and they both had these glasspacks and they were normal sounding- then again they were only 350 chevs with standard ex manifolds.
