Hi I just got a 383 that im putting in my A body, i was trying to find the engine #s but have had no luck. dose anyone know were the numbers are on a 1966-1967 block, thank you.

70 340, man a 383 in a A-body! It's gonna be fun!!Have you looked at the passenger side near the oil pan flange? Also, there is a machined "pad" near the dizzy base that may contain info.

They didn't put the numbers on the side of the block until the late 60s I think.
I used to know the exact date but can't remember it now.
I think they had some sort of number on the top rear of the block where the bellhousing bolts up.
But if there is an ID pad at the front of the engine next to the distributor then that is the one you want anyway.

67 was the last year of the "certicard" and the new Fed. law started in 1968, I think. Either way, dizzy "pad" or side of block, or as Dave stated, near the bellhousing rear of block, by the oil sending unit, should produce the desired numbers. Then compare with Galens casting books "little white books". Yep,Christer I think that is a newer block. Post 67.

After cleaning up the areas mentiond above, I found the numbers
. They were just under the dizzy. Thanks all that helped.
