Small Block Air Filter

Any recommendations of an after market air filter? I have 4-1/2" of clearance to work with. I like the looks of the Mopar Performance unit but the K&N may flow better. Then there is replacement availability later on in life. Can't find the element for the Wieand I've been using for the past 20 years. :(

Jon, I personally like the K&N X-top, it flows both on the sides and on top. In recent magazine dyno testing it was worth a tenth. It is what I use on my crate 380/360 Magnum. The M.P. cast aluminum assy, is what I use to use and it took a special sized,(13.5) instead of the standard 14" so you cant get the "discount" mass produced size, and the K&N element was 70.00 and the 14" was half the price. I have the cast M.P. valve covers and it was a matching set.

Any increase in power you might see will only be because the old filter was too small.

I can get you pics of my "setup" with the x-stream airfilter Jon, if you need it.

Thanks Eddie, But I think the X-stream looks a little too after market for me, I'm not much of a racer anymore either. It apears that Holley has a replacement element that might work. They must have bought the patent from Wieand or something.

I don't think it is the best setup though. It is the trianguler low profile weiand lynx from way back. Not alot of surface area and I have heard they can catch fire in the event of a backfire through the carb. Easy to work on the engine without removing the air cleaner assembly though.
Still reseaching. :s006:

Oh, and do you know if the K&N series have the fitting for the PCV breather or do you need to drill out the bottom pan?

Thanks again

No problem Jon, I know for a fact that mine does not have the pcv fitting so it would be a hassle to put one in. I hope you find one, have you thought about going back to an O.E.M. dual snorkle police/hi-po type? I know you could buy one with all new parts such as Year one,paddock,ect.. or maybe used from one of the moPar Salvage yards like Stephens perf. Either way good luck I know finding the perfect "set-up can be a hassle.
