Stuck Gas Guage

Postby bradburm » 24 Jul 2006 18:49

I have a 73 that I recently had the cluster redone and the gas guage still wont show full, it displays a little above 1/2 full. Anyway, I am guessing that the float in the tank is hung up or not functioning.

Is it easier and cheaper to replace the float (assuming you can) or just buy a new tank, all ideas appreciated.

Dave, I did search through the site for someone with a similar issue in the past but didnt see anything, so sorry if I missed it.

Best to all

How are you doing the search? Did you use the "seach" tab above under the board title?

I typed "sender" into the search page and came up with a dozen links such as;

http://challenger.mpoli.fi/forum/viewto ... ght=sender

Have a good read of that whole thread as there is some good stuff in there and try searching for "sender" or "fuel sender" yourself for other links.

Grounding the wire to the sender should give you full deflection on the guage.

You might also want to measure the output of the low voltage regulator in the dash. It should average at 5 volts. This is what powers the guage. Also check that any nuts attaching the regulator are clean and tight.

But note. It is common for these things not to read completely full.
