1970 Challenger block and manifold

Postby Paul70340 » 27 Dec 2005 13:46

I have a 1970 Challenger convertible, 340, produced in March of 1970. It does not have the original engine or manifold. What should the date stamp be for the correct, date coded block and manifold? Anyone know how to find one? Any infor would be appreciated.

Good 1970 340 engines are getting hard to find. The casting dates on the engines are just that - the date the parts were cast and not the date the engine was assembled. The date could be anything from a few weeks to a couple of months before the date the car was built.

The variation is because the parts were cast in batches and shipped/stored before use.
Also because the actual build date could be weeks after the sheduled build date.

If you want to be accurate you will need to seek out 340 powered cars built around the same time as your own car at Hamtramck. The big car shows would be the best place to start unless anyone on this board has one built around that time.

To be honest though. Why bother? It will not be numbers matching anyway. Non-correct date codes will not alter it's value. A non original engine is a non original engine no matter when it was cast.

With 340s being harder and harder to find I would settle for any 340 I could get hold of.
