Hi,
I wounder what Colorcode it is to a 1970 383 engine Orange (street hemi Orange).
Is it the same code that the ext. color Hemi Orange (PPG V-2 2186)?
or is it the Orange (PPG 999 60435)?
I will use a 2-komp. engine paint not the spray paint that you can buy in Year One.

the way that i did mine is two cans of chevy orange, i know i know icky but it covers well, then a good coat of rattle can chrysler orange, really looks good.

Opinions differ as to what the engine shade should be. My opinion is it should be like the body paint only without the glitter in it. I don't like the very brown shade that currently passes for hemi orange engine paint.

For simplicity I will be using a Rover colour on my engine so that I can easily get touch-up paint for it. The colour is not a million miles out (a bit more orange than hemi orange) but is close enough for me.

do you have the color code for the Rover color (Orange) that you have use to the engine.
and if you have some pics on the engine send one for me so that I could see how the color is.

The engine is in bits and not painted yet. I said I WILL be painting it this colour.

I don't have a paint code. It is called Austin Rover Vermillion Red.

After a quick search on the 'net the only photo I could find of the colour was this blurred photo of a model car someone had painted.

This colour is a nice colour but remember IT IS NOT THE SAME AS HEMI ORANGE!

ok I should go to him who will mix my engine paint and see if he could get the colour code on this paint.
Have you paint any engine before with this paint colour?

Yes I have used it in the past on my engine for a quick clean-up. But I just wire brushed the block... :roll:

I have remembered I have still got that Rover colour on the six pack lid. I also have a sample of hemi orange paint. I will put one on top of the other and take a photo.

Hi,
It is always that way when you put things there you think they are easy to find but when you need them you never find them.

I have tried to mixed a PPG colour I am going to paint my engine with that colour I could put up a picture after I have done the paint job.

here is the info on the can of street hemi orange i used on my darts motor. in certian light it will almost look red. but thats just the way the color is... it really isn't an orange orange color... if that makes any sence..

Don't know about the paint you used, but the Mopar Performance stuff actually looks red until you run the engine for a while. The temperature makes it turn orange.

its a single stage urethane.. the mp spray cans are nowhere the proper color.

check it out.

in this pic. the intake and valve covers are the MP spray paint.. nowhere near the proper color...

the valve covers have some over spray but look at the difference in color..

Just a question to add on this topic :
Has anyone here had problems with an overheating engine that could be traced back to the kind of paint used on the block ?

Interesting question.
Obviously some heat is radiated away from the engine as infrared radiation. But most of the cooling is done by the water jacket.

I guess if the water cooling system was marginal and the block was painted with some insulating material it might just push it over the edge?

The worst colours for radiating heat are polished metal or light gloss colours. If you really want to radiate heat away you need to paint a dark matt finish. Matt black being the best.

In fact matt black is about 7 times better (I measured that in my physics night class just the other day) of radiating (or absorbing) heat than, say, polished aluminium. Which is why I will be painting my Be-Cool ally radiator black before re-fitting it. It might look really cool and sexy in it's natural finish but it is very inefficient like that.
