I have a 340 with headers, ported and polished heads, performer manafold, demon carb. Well i does not run well and we are try to get the timing right but at TDC the rotor is pointer to the rear of the car. From what i know and it isnt much but that cant be right. Now when we lifted the distributer out ther gear stayed in, from my research that is right. Now we lifted it and turned it 180 degrees so it fit back in the slot and now the rotor was closer to the number one but the car wouldnt start and ended up backfiring through the carb. How do you remove the distributer gear so i can get the rotor right on the number one at TDC so i can start over? or should i just leave it were its at since it runs? Also if anyone can give me an estimate on the timing advance or retard that would be great?
thanks,
Justin
