throttle cable

I converted my 318 from a two barrell to a four barrell. My question is, can I use the two barrell throttle cable or will I need to get a four barrel cable? I have the two barrell cable hooked up to it and it has a pretty severe bend in it like it's too long and needs to be moved back some. Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks

Well to change carbs you also changed manifolds and that is more critical as different manifolds place the throttle cable more forward/back and higher/lower.

Make sure the throttle cable bracket is at the right height so that the cable has a good straight pull on the throttle. Also you want your kickdown (if an automatic) to be level so that it does not hit the air filter base.

After that if you feel the cable is too long simply replace it with a shorter one. You can get them made up to any custom length.

that sounds very much like the problem I had. Dave has seen my fix, which involved replacing the old original 2 bbl kickdown and throttle bracket with a high rise one. I used a Lokar kickdown cable in place of the old kickdown rod and used the original throttle cable on the new bracket. Throttle cable is now level with the carb linkage and the kickdown cable doesn`t interfere with the air filter housing. It looks pretty neat as well :D I`ll put some pics up later.
ps; Edelbrock Performer manifold and Edelbrock 1405 carb.

Thanks guys, Yes I have a Edelbrock performer intake with a Holley 4160 series carb. Just trying to figure out this throttle cable business so I can get this thing running. I have the four barrell kickdown linkage which I thought was all I needed, but the height of the intake is also the problem. I guess I'll look at the Lokar stuff, I also see alot of cables and linkage on Ebay for taller intakes, I look at that too. I would like to see a pic of the Lokar cable also.

Thanks again guys!

haven`t forgotten about this, here`s pics of the trans connection.

I seem to have lost the top end linkage pics :s006: I`ll take some more tonite.

ok, here are some more pics;
last one shows the outer cable attachment at the gearbox tailshaft end.
Cable runs down the top of the box and curves back on itself so the cable pulls on the kickdown lever, unlike the OEM rod which pushes. My supplier recommended putting the light return spring on the kickdown lever to ensure of full return.

Neil, Thanks alot man! :D :D

I was hoping I could get away with the linkage I have now, but the Lokar stuff looks pretty good!

Thanks again!
