How to determine if I have a 6 pack 440?

Postby 965 » 14 Jul 2005 2:33

I know it is a 440 because of the 2536430-6 on both sides of the block. It is missing the crank,intake/carbs, and exhaust manifolds. I was told it was a 440 6 pack motor, but would like to confirm...
thanks!

There is no difference between the normal 440 block and the six pack block. The only way you will be able to tell it was a six pack engine would be to find out what car it came out of.

Even if it had the six pack crank and rods it could still have been a 4bbl engine originally as many 1970 HP 440s had these parts.

build date is 1-22-70. One # that is on the lowest part of the block near the oil pan is OF237420.....I don't really know what car it came out of, would the vin be on the motor somewhere?

thanks

That number from above the oil pan is part of the VIN. They never stamped the engine with the whole VIN which is why you can't tell what car it came out of or if it was a 6 pack or not.

The first digit you have there is 0 for 1970 model year. The second digit "F" = Newark, DE production plant. I don't know what models they made there but don't think they made any 1970 6-pack cars at that plant.

It makes no difference though because as I said there is no difference in the block anyway.
