Heres a quick one for ya, race hemi orange is the reddish color correct?
While street hemi orange is the bright orange color?

Other way around.

The original 'race' colour was a very orange orange if you know what I mean.

The later 'street' colour had more red in it and is what is normally refered to as 'Hemi Orange'.

WARNING!
Most engine paints you buy today (including the Mopar Performance paint) IS THE WRONG COLOUR! It is a horrible brown/red/orange that looks awful to me. Yet you still see lots of 'restored' cars wearing it on their engines. YUK!

So just to make sure this color of this engine would be race hemi orange?

Err. I'm colour blind!

Plus it is very hard to tell from photos. My car is painted hemi orange and it can look like that in photos on a sunny day or with a flash on the camera. But without the flash and on an overcast day it looks red in photos.

So Dave, I was thinking about painting my 70 Hemi Orange. How do I know I'm getting the right paint mix, as all paint distributers would have their own mix ratio's? Should I only buy from a particular company? Am I right by saying PPG mixed all Chrysler colors back in early 70's?

There are already some thoughts about this on the Message board:

(Not very easy to find I guess....)

I would like to add that I used a can from Bill Hirsch (just to make the confusion even bigger  ). I doubt that it is the correct colour but I canĀ“t tell for sure since I have nothing to compare with. A good help, eh?

Doesn't look like the right colour to me. Hemi orange is more like a scarlet.
