I have a 1970 Dodge challenger and I am wondering how much Horsepower it has.
Ok I have a 1976 440. I think I have the stock 255 Horsepower one. Here is the information about it on this page. It is the last engine listed on both lists. http://www.nhra.com/tech_specs/engine/blueprints/CHRY-76.rtf

Now what I have done to it is as follows: RPM performer Intake Manifold, Holley 750 Carb, K & N X-flow Air filer 14 inch diameter 3 inch height, 1 7/8inch headers and straight pipe exhaust with glass packs 3 inch. I also installed MSD Electronic Ignition.

Anyone got one of those programs that can calculate the horsepower on the car engine? Thank You.

Putting in the stock configuration gives 308hp @ 4500rpm on the desktop dyno. Torque is 421lbs @ 3000rpm. This is assuming no emmission control stuff.

Adding the parts you have fitted nets 337hp @ 4500 and 445lbs @ 3500rpm.

This is mostly down to the headers and exhaust.

The carb would make no difference over stock. The intake manifold is not rpm matched to the cam and heads. The ignition will add reliability but no real power and the engine would have had electronic ignition when new anyway.

Power is made in the heads and cam. Change those and match the compression to suit and you will make big power.

I just did the numbers on the stock configuration again because I had used the HP exhaust system in the dyno by mistake and got 291 hp and 404lbs. It just shows how a good flowing exhaust is important even on a stock engine.

Thank you dave for that info. I was wondering is that rear wheel Horsepower or is it brake horsespower?

This is bhp at the crank.

With a 727 auto trans take off about 70hp to get your rear wheel power.
