440-6 intake

Postby Hassan » 30 May 2004 16:35

I own a 70 challenger 440-6 that has lost its original intake through the years and has a 4bbl today. what corrective action should I take? buy an intake from edlebrock or holley or any other newer brands? or should I try to locate and buy a 1970 intake with the original carbs if possible. I do not know where to start. thank you for any help.

The carbs and all the bits you need can be bought new. Places like Year One, The Paddock, etc sell them as complete kits.

It depends how 'correct' you want the car to be.

I personally do not like the cast iron 1970-71 manifold. It is SO HEAVY!

It is said that some of the early '70 model six pack cars came with the Edelbrock ally manifold carried over from the '69 lift off hood cars. So you could argue that if your car has an early build date (and it would have to be very early) it would be correct to fit the Edelbrock manifold.

I would fit the Edelbrock manifold anyway. But then I personally am less concerned about correctness.

If you want original parts ebay is your only real option.
