I have a gradually increasing problem with the starter in my 440 (comp 10.5). When trying to start it cranks to slow. Turns a few times and then slows down and stops. Suspecting the starter is starting to give up. Have checked all cables, grounding and connections. Battery new yellow Optima giving out 925 A cold start current. The thing is that the problem have got gradually worse over time. Can a starter die slowly? I thought it would either be working fine or not at all. If it can die slowly what happens with it? Anything that can be fixed? What mini-high-torque starter is best buy if I have to replace? Thanks in advance for any info. / Lars

Get a mini starter. Any of them are better than the factory unit.

Time for some qualified guesses:
1. Yes, I think a starter can die slowly.
2. The thing that happens is that the rotor isn´t perfectly centered due to worn bearings.
3. Everything can be fixed but a mini-starter is probably the best solution.

OK, thanks. Agree that anything can be fixed. Have done lots of stupid things along with that... And by the way Christer, (between Swedes) do you know if there are ministarters for MOPAR aviable in Sweden to reasonable prices? / Lars

I am not sure about that but I would give Persåkers speed shop a call. An ad on Mopar Swedens swap-meet section can maybe give something (I think I have seen one mini-starter for sale there).
