New MP 5.7 HEMI crate engine

FWIW. From the latest Mopar Muscle Magazine, "Rated at a conservative 360 hp and 360 lb.-ft of torque, Mopar Performance is ushering in the next wave of V8 muscle with it's 5.7 Hemi crate engine. The new 5.7 will be offered in two flavors: carbureted and electronically fuel injected. These are brand-new engines built at the Daimler-Chrysler plant, and then sent to Mopar Performance for their new controller and intake."

There was no mention of date or price. I'm guessing somewhere around 5-6 grand. Bang for buck, I'm sure the 360 and its variants will still be the best small block performers. It's interesting though, like the 5.7 Challenger build mentioned in other threads, I wonder if there will be a big demand for the 5.7 in muscle cars.

The cons: It'll probably cost 5 to 6 grand. Cheaper and plentiful 360s easily out perform it.

The pros: It'll probably be half the price of the crate 426 (If their even still making the crate 426) I think it's smaller (dimensionally) and it's gotta be lighter. Oh yeah and its a HEMI!

with a 4-inch stroke, port and polish and a good set of headers to back up a good program on the fuel injection side, it sounds damn tempting. Could get to 500 hp and still be street able, and get better efficiency than the gas toilet that I have...Temptation is rearing it's ugly head

Here is a cross section of the new hemi I got from a 300c advertisement. It shows the new "MDS" system that shuts down half the cylinders when cruising.

That would be intersting? Can you imagine what type of milage you could get out of a chally?

What a peice of a junk! It breaks down sitting parked in a parking lot! I will hate that engine till the day i die! 360 hp and 360 torque is all well and good untill it breaks down!

It may just be me but that danged engine is a peice of crap! the olds ones may be better but wait a minute is that saying a whole lot? No!

I hate the Hemi and the reason i came to this sight is because of my luv for the 360 V8. It may not be the biggest and badest thing in the world but it is way more reliable in a long race or just in your 2000 Dodge Ram out in your parking lot. I would take it any whare. The Hummy( Hemi?) i would hesistate to take to the convinent store in danger of it breaking down. Definition of Hemi-Gas guzzlin' low quality peice of junk engine that is made to replace something ( 360 ) that held its own against the likes of the GM 350 or the Ford 351. Bad move by Dodge to replace the 360 with a worthless peice of junk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will come out just as oil hits 75 us a barrel and they cut supply in half... Sounds like 1973 all over again.

But I would buy one anyway...
