440 Engine Timings?

Postby Cgillies86 » 14 Mar 2004 15:27

I just bought a 1970 Dodge CHallenger, and it has a 1976 440, with a 1974 intake manifold. The engine is running pretty bad right now. Here is some of the problems I have, If I hit the gas any more than light, then there is a exlosion that comes out of the carburetor. If I floor the gas the enigne stalls out. I figured I would do some tunning up to make it run better. WHat is the ignition timmings of a 440? Does anyone have any other things I should check and/or change?

Thank You

10-12 degrees initial should get you in the ballpark. 35 degrees total timing (without vacuum) is the way to set it best.
