Phillips screw in muffler brackets.

Working on a 70 Challenger....
I have a question about the muffler hanger brackets (rectangular in shape that have two bolts welded in place) that are located in the rear of the truck just below the tail lights. You can spot these by picking up the trunk floormat. Each one of these has a Phillips screw placed in the corner. I had to grind this off to get the old brackets out. I can’t figure out why it was there in the first place. Any value in replacing this screw?

The bracket had studs that extended through the trunk floor that the tailpipe hanger bolted to. The screw kept this from falling out of place during assembly. The value would be in correctness.

Thanks for your help. Guess I will remove what is left of the screw and put another in it's place.
