Just thought to let you know what's going on lately. Me and my buddy decided to use the 440 I had laying around for his dragcuda so therefore I won't built a 440 stroker as plans were first. Instead of this I came up with a bigger / better / badder plan; a Hemi. I'll use my buddy's ported & polished alu hemi heads with rocker assembly and some other parts he had. But then I still needed a block...

And that's being built right now. And take a guess at the output; just awesome!! Output guesses from Barton were around 700 hp&trq, now see what the desktop dyno came up with.

Don't be scared if I ever make it to the Nats Dave... you know the desktop dyno is off with high-output engines. Oh, almost forgot, most hp engines are underestimated on the dyno...

You don't scare me with that dyno curve mate!

First of all you have to put it together and get it here.

Then you have to put that power into the ground with a great chassis and good traction.

Then it has to hold together.

If that torque curve is right you need to 1-2 shift at 8000rpm and 2-3 shift at 7500rpm.

I know Dave, I foul myself also sometimes with the output of the hemi. I guess this year I'll run 'only' high 11's while finetuning the car. Also I'll only launch it at idle as I still have the 8.3/4, till the dana comes in it's not a pleasant idea to launch at 4000 it seems to me. As for the putting it together, this should be no problem. It will be shipped in coming march.

But then again, an electric fuel pump, bigger fuel lines, electric fan, oil accumulator, battery relocation kit, billet rear end caps, safety loop etc. have to be installed along with the hemi.

Some specs it will have;
- 10.5:1 CR
- RBRE H-beam rods
- Custom solid cam; 283@050, .680 lift (how will it sound )
- Barton intake (this one looks cruell!)
- 1150CFM dominator
- Ported & polished alu heads
- HV oil & fuel pump
- Swinging oil pickup
- 2.1/8" Hooker Super Comp headers
- 3.5" exhaust w/ 3" flowmasters
- 727 tranny w/ manual valve body and t-brake
- 4800 rpm flash
- 430 gear ratio
- Built to shift @ around 7-7.5k

So this year I expect (if it stays together dave) high 11's while the next season high 10's. According to the pro's (Barton & friends) it should run easy 10's but seeing is believing! But then again, only the looks of the intake / valve covers are worth 2/10's

About the desktop dyno; it's calculated hp is right on the numbers but torque is way to low. Barton had a similair hemi on the dyno last year (about same flow / same cam, intake, rockers, CR, carb, etc.) and it produced towards the 700trq! But anyway, it will increase the funfactor nomather what!

Anybody have experience with schubeck lifters?? Barton likes me to get them as they seem to have less friction and so, but is this worth the extra $500 I know less friction is always a good thing but man these are expensive...

Any input or experience here...

Good luck with your Hemi! Do you think you have the engine and the car ready to the Mopar Nationals?

One of the pain in the arse aspects of running a solid cam with high-rpm high-pressure valve springs is that you have to make frequent valve lash adjustments. The original hemi was a pain for this even before you started hopping it up like the one you are having built. Customers were complaining they were having to adjust lash on a regular basis. This was why they brought out the hydraulic cam hemi in 1970.

These Schubeck lifters have a composite face that seems to last forever.
Even if you change cams you can re-use these babys. You can even swap them from hole to hole without problems.

The Mopar Action team used them in their solid cammed "Green Brick". After a few dyno pulls, 9000 miles of track events and street driving, they checked and the lash had grown by only 0.001". Not enough to bother adjusting.

So for that and the drop in friction they are probably worth the money. However I do not know anyone currently using them so the Mopar Action reference is all the info I have on them. They have a web site at http://www.schubeckracing.com too.

How much bore/stroke?

4.5" bore x 4.15" stroke will make it a 528

that's what i'm building......i'm getting the money together to do the block, i'll be running stageV heads with 2.30/1.94 valves..

I have alu heads that came from an engine Frank Zorion / Bob Reed built somewhere in the past. They're completely ported & polished back then so they must flow pretty well. They have 2.25/1.94 valves with springs matching the cam and titanium retainers. The rockers are still stock though, they ask a fortune for hemi roller rockers man, scared the ***** out of me that time.

When do you hope yours is ready Mike ? I hope mine will be coming in in april so I can install it in may an run in june

Just spoke with RBRE on the phone yesterday. The block came in so they satrt on it right away with balancing / installing the rotating assembly. Said to me it should be ready to be shipped at the end of next week! So I'll make it to the natonal drags in july Wonder what it will run and more important, if I have traction...

I caught myself speeding tonight as it happens. In the Neon of all things. I was three times over the speed limit!

I should add that it was in a retail park and the speed limit was only 10mph.

Hey! That was with the 340! And it was two lengths not two seconds.

But on the hood it still sais 340-4bbl... and it still is a 4-bbl! Althoug a bit bigger maybe... Don't blame me for trying mate

Good & bad news guys...

The bad part is that they HOPE to have the hemi ready by the end of this month while I planned to have it already by then. They're so **** busy and shorthanded! Nothing to do about that.

Good part is that I just recieved the valve covers / valve springs / spring cups and man does these covers look impressive !!! My 1050 dominator carb is standing next to the covers and it just looks small...

Will try to snap the camera from work this week to take a pic.

Looks like someone else knows the motor will be there soon...

I remember an incident from when they first brought out the Turbocharged Ford Escort Cosworth.

We have a rather hedonistic (is that how you spell it?) night spot area on the sea front near where I live called Whitley Bay. The local police there bought one of these very high performance Escorts (complete with huge silly wing on the back) and used it as a patrol car there.

I was having a drink in that area one Saturday night with a mate of mine and as we waited to cross a road from a corner this Escort came around and drove right by us.
As the young looking Policeman came past he looked at us (as Policemen always do when they see guys wearing biker jackets) and I said (too loud!) "You lucky bastard!"

He just gave me this big wide grin and said in an excited voice "Yes! I know!".

Don't think I get a ticket for speeding either, well at least not many of them. Won't drive to fast that much with a 1liter : 2kilometer fuel burning 528 running 3600rpms@60mph... Maybe they like to give me a ticket for the sound it makes w/ 2.1/8" headers and 3.1/2" exhaust w/ 2chamber flowm's lol
