I have a 70 R/T with a 440. I am not sure what kind of performance to expect from this car with this engine. I bought the car recently and have never driven a challenger before. Car has a 727
automatic with a 3:23 suregrip.Can anyone tell me
if this car should smoke the tires or not.The car has 56k original on it.}}}

Original road tests at the time had the car down as doing 0-60 in 6.4 secs and a top speed around 140mph so it was not a slow car by any means!
Quarter mile times and speeds are the best way of measuring how much power you have. Almost as good as an engine dynometer in fact. The 440 R/T would run around mid-to-high 14s @ around 90-95mph when new. That equates to about 220-260 rear wheel horsepower. Compair that to the 375 gross rated by the factory!
But in a nutshell, if you stick it in first gear and floor the sonofabitch it should smoke the tires pulling away.
