Dynomax Headers

Does anyone have anything bad to say about them? Does anyone know of any reasons why I shouldn't install them? Does anyone really care?

I think they are not as widely used as Hooker Headers, but they are better than manifolds, so go ahead and install them. I am currently using Black Jack headers myself. If anyone thinks that your message is worth while answering, you will get a response, or otherwise I will say something.

The only headers I have experience with is Hedman and I am about to cut mine up and modify them to get them to seal correctly so I can't recommend them. I don't know anyone using dynomax headers.

As long as they are not Western Family brand headers, I think the Dynomax headers will do just fine, Stephan. Like Dave said earlier about the different brands of mufflers, for street/stip use different brands don't vary much, performance wise, unless you have an all out race car.

I have the hooker super comps on my 70 sm block and they fit very well. I have never heard of dynomax headers.

i just put dynomax headers "ceramic coated" on a 400 bg block
in a 70 challenger they fit great i had to make
no adjustmants they cool down fast i think there
great no problems so far

I have a 70 340 engine in my Challenger. It is stock with a little more cam and runs ok. I would like to ask if an aftermarket header system would be much better that the Chrysler exhaust manifolds I have now. The present manifold are correct for that year I think. Some have called them Dart headers. They are quite a bit different that the exhaust manifolds on later model engines. The drivers side is just plane strange. They are very sound and I would like to keep them if there is not much andvantage in making a change. Great page Dave R.

The only advantage to using headers is more power. Other than that they are a pain in the arse.

Dave,

I've got Hedman headers on my 318; they are holding OK for now but are rusting. Is there a worthwhile alternative for a 318? I am concerned mostly because the battery hot wire to the starter runs very close to the driver side header where it connects.

I know that there are newer headers out for tighter spaces (I've seen them advertised in one mopar magazine that contains a truck section - I think its either Mopar Action or Mopar Muscle). They may be for the new trucks. Any thoughts?

I do not have much experience with headers so I am not qualified to answer.

I did think the best bet is to either buy cheap (like hedman) and wrap them to keep the heat in (they wear out faster with header wrap) OR get some very expensive ceramic coated good quality items like the TTI headers.

Having tried the cheap headers/wrap and had lots of grief with them I think TTI headers is the way I am going next time but at over $700 a pair they had better last a LONG time!

Thanks Dave.

I could get the lightweight, smaller starter; that may resolve my concern on the starter cable.

Do you know if the 340 manifolds will fit a 318? Apparently the 318 manifolds won't fit the 340 from your series of messages under manifolds. Just seeking an alternative for when my headers wear out; they were a drag to install.

Good luck with your header modifications.

You will have to check with the supplier but I am pretty sure they will fit OK.

I got the Ceramic Dynomax headers in 2001 too, Not to happy with them at all! now.They hang real low to the ground..not like the originals.noticeable and unsafe! also paid extra for the (ceramic) type and now that im finnaly driving the car there is surface rust all over it, Dynomax says they will replate them for me but if i took them out im sure I would put something else in...thats my take on it

The more I hear about the TTI headers the more I am sure they will be the header of choice for me next time. I have seen a few of these on friends cars now and they look and fit fantastic. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet when it comes to price.

Dynomax Headers worked great for me

I have a 1970 340 six-pack set up in my challenger and went to the chrome looking Dynomax ceremac coated headers. They were a bit of a pain to install (jacking up the engine and removing the steering) but once installed, they worked great. No sealing problems and since they're coated on both the inside and outside, the engine compartment is quite a bit cooler. You will need to get a later model starter because of clearance problems but other than that they are great.

I just installed Dynomax headers on my 68 Coronet R/T (440) and they seem ok (no leaks and look good). Then I ordered a set for my 71 Challenger R/T with a 340 motor and returned them because one of the primary seals was so miss aligned it blocked about 30% of the port!! I ordered Hookers which had very nice port openings and the workmanship was visibly better from top to bottom. My recommendation for budget headers is to go with Hooker. If you have lots of cash go with TTI.

I would agree with that.

Only I don't have much money but I am going for the TTI anyway because she's worth it. :D

I fitted Dynomax headers on to my 318,and they fitted really well,and no leaks yet! They do sit quite low under the car though,a bit of a pain with all these speed bumps that are growing around here.....
