I have a problem with fuel dripping from the vent assembly behind the fuel tank, only when theres about more than 4 gallons left in the tank. Its a brand new tank. Is there any way the vent assembly can go bad? Is there any way I can maybe by-pass the assembly? Oh yes, im sorry the car is a 1974 ( i know for differnt years there are differnt vent assemblys) mine has the 4 vents coming off the back of the tank.

Nick. I removed it all from mine about the same time I got a sump welded to the tank. But I cant remember how it was done. I can remember that when I put a Holley "blue top" pump on, I removed all the pipes and sealed the ends with bolts and sealant. It was like this for years and I had no probs. But again I'm a bit vague here. All this was for the emissions stuff if I remember rightly.

Where exactly is it leaking? Could be a faulty tank.

vent is on top, how can it leak when tank is close to empty?

that is exactly what I was wondering. Im gonna check it out very closely in a little while and ill let you guys know

I've had problems with leaks from the area where the sender/dip pipe enters the tank. It screws on and the gasket can sometimes leak. Hope this helps.

I noticed on mine that it is easy for one of the locking tangs to slip out when installing the metal ring over the sender. It will leak like that.
