Challenger T/A Torque Boxes

Postby ND RAM » 01 Aug 2009 20:24

Ok, so I'm building a T/A clone and I've run into a question. Did the T/A's and AAR's come with torque boxes? I know the convertibles and HEMI/440 4-speed cars came with them but for obvious reasons. Did the Raylle Suspension package that the T/A's had include the torque boxes or were they not OE for the Trams Am street warriors? I haven't been able to find a good answer. Often that is the answer; there is no yes or no, just a maybe.

Thanks,
Daniel

I don't know the answer for you but I will say this...even if they were supposed to get the boxes, that doesn't mean they were installed.

I have heard of 440 cars that don't have the boxes and heard of one car that even had the boxes installed on one side of the car but not the other. I believe that was a Road Runner or GTX.

Check out www.Bestofshowautomotive.com I know they have several T/A's and AAR's that have been sold or are for sale. They have a lot of underside pics that I'm sure will answer your question.

PG Classic is all made in China stuff. I think i bought some of those as well, good luck making them fit. Then i bought some more from a fellow in the USA who made a limited run of better ones, thicker gauge and more correctly dimensioned ones, they were on Ebay, paid a bit more but he gave me a great deal on postage as i also bought some LCA strengthener plates. Let me know if you want photos installed and uninstalled.

I'd love to know the best vendor for torque boxes as I will most def. be welding some on my car within the next month. I'll stay away from the PG classic ones – thanks for the heads up. I need to buy frame connecters as well. thanks.

I bought the US Car Tool ones. Still not fitted them though.

It was a close call between those and the Auto Rust Technician pieces(actually, it could have been a close call if ART had answered my many e-mails, but no such luck).

If you're lookign for chassis reinforcements, get heavy-gauge ones.
Some suppliers sell 'repro' stuff that's a bit thin (although they may be closer to the originals).

No probs.

I agree with Bernard, go for heavy gauge. Harder to bend up but well worth it.

The Auto Rust Tech ones are reported to be pretty good.
