Postby patrick » 30 May 2008 5:41

What is the difference between the "A" Body, and the "F" Body? :?: Duster's and Volare's, Road Runner's all look the same in those mid to late 70' year's.

Mid to late 70s were "The Dark Ages".
Little is known about this period in history.
Just a few stories come from this time. Told mainly to frighten small children and make them hide under their blankets at night.
But there are tails of cars that were so horrible that just a mention of their names sends a shudder down the spine of even the most fearless street warrior. :s008:

The A-Body from 1967-1976 used traditional MoPar torsion bar front suspension, the cars were made for a number of years and the factory used every big block they had in them from the /6 to the mighty Hemi,(1968 SS/A SS/AA Race Hemi cars), Mr. Norms 383 A-Bodys and the factorys 440 Darts in 1968-69. The F-Body used a funky tranverse mounted torsion bar suspension where the T-bars are at a funky angle and design, the aftermarket only makes decals and emblems and MoPar people dont consider those cars as traditional muscle cars. They also used a v-8 but only the 318 and possibly the 360 in Cop Cars like the St. Regis, Diplomat ect. The late 70's was a 'Dark Grim' time at Chrysler.

Pat, if youre contemplating a project car you might want to visit www.allpar.com for a little history into the design of such a car. Lido Iaccoca said it best,"They should have never dropped the Valiant, Dart A-Body, they ran forever, instead they developed the F-Body which 'Came apart' after a year or two" This design was awarded the most recalled car in U.S. History until G.M. took that 'honour' away from Chrysler with the G.M. X body! Mechanics referred to the F-body as a 'rolling TSB"(in other words they were considered junk even by the techs) This info was gleaned from that site. This is NOT to say there isnt some cool fast F-bodies out there, but you will be limited on the body parts available, suspension from hell, you might have to fab a lot of your parts like linkages, kickdowns, bushings ect,, a lot of slavage yard searching you get the idea!

Holy Smoke's, fal308! That was a ton of information! The car is perfect for my daughter, now. But, is going to be a great Racer!!! :s003: I weighed it today. 3/4 tank of gas.2950 LBS. That's without taking anything away of the stock, set up. Of coarse now, my daughter is starting to love the car. We'll see how it goe's. I can't blame her. I got it for her, because, I thought, it was cool. She really want's my Nisson, though. I made a deal with her that, I would trade her if, if I don't I don't have to commute, anymore, I'll do it. Either way. Both car's are fine. I went through the Nisson,December, last year. Been disecting this mopar, since last week. Either way, she'll have a safe ride. If I could only get her to be smooth, on a manual, shift. :x  :?:

Thank you too, Eddie! I think, I might stay with this, retarded "F" Body. Rust free, with some usual bushing, issue's.
