What is a: SCHMACHER TORQUE BRACE

Postby Daniel » 25 Jan 2006 20:48

I am looking into various solutions to firm up my unibody and I heard about Schmacher torque braces but I can't find any info on this product. Can someone provide a pointer?

Does anyone sell those hemi torque boxes or do they have to be fabricated?

Thanks,
Daniel

You can buy them on ebay for instance. They are a bit pricey though, about $200-$300+ last time I saw them.

To firm up the body you want weld in chassis connectors. Plus torque boxes that weld to the corners of the chassis from various places such as Auto Rust Technicians.

Thanks

I'm not sure what is worse, me posting while at work or you guys responding instead of sleeping! :D

Hur mar du!?

I think I will go the route of troque boxes and connector (likely from Mopar Perf) although this shop down the street from my house (Magnum Force) makes these tubular connectors that look nice but I have no feedback on http://www.magnumforce.com/mopar_subfra ... ectors.htm

I did get my tubular upper control arms from these guys and I am very happy.

Posting at work can´t be the worst thing because I think many of us would fall into this category if that was the case.... :s004:

Yep, they look nice. If you want them to perform good, you have to weld them against the body. To bolt them is just not good enough. Too much gap that way. I think Dr Dave also has stated this somewhere, right?

You are better off using box section for your frame connectors. That way you can easily weld them to each subframe and to the floor too at one or two points.

Some people are making connectors that are shaped to follow the shape of the floorpan so you can weld them along the whole length. This is ideal but not needed in most cases.

Connectors are easy to make yourself if you can weld. Mine are made of 2"x2" box section. They are not welded to the floor at all at the moment and have been working well as they are. However i will be welding them to the floor at one point at least sometime in the next few weeks.

It was only 9pm here when I posted my last message and it is coming up to 9am here at work now. Bloody time zones eh?

Not as pricey as I first thought. $250 for a set of four sounds reasonable. $70 each. More info on: http://www.autorust.com/k_2627.html
